The City Institute for Emergency Medical Assistance in Belgrade, after more than half a century, will be reconstructed thanks to a project financed by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and the European Union. As stated in the announcement, a donation agreement in the amount of EUR 8.8 million in grants from the European Union has been signed, and these funds, as well as a previously secured loan of EUR 5 million from the EBRD, will be used to finance renovation and expansion of the ambulance building capacity. The total expected costs of the investment are around EUR 14 million, according to the EBRD press release.

In addition, the European Union provided a donation of EUR 1.7 million for technical assistance to the City of Belgrade for support in the implementation of the project, supervision of construction works and assistance in reviewing the potential for energy efficiency and introducing a sustainable financing mechanism in the City.

In addition to the signing of the donation contract, a tender for the reconstruction of the Ambulance Service will be announced in the following days.

The reconstruction of the emergency room will include works to improve energy efficiency, as well as the extension and expansion of the existing facilities for an additional 4,000 m2 of surface area. Measures aimed at improving energy efficiency will include thermal insulation, improved heating, ventilation and cooling systems, as well as the introduction of energy-efficient lighting systems.
