Environmental awareness driving innovation: D Express built a solar power plant for self-consumption

By building a solar power plant on the roof of the administrative building - its largest facility, the courier service D Express has started a project to implement solar panels. By installing solar panels, in cooperation with the company MT-komex, designed to absorb the sun`s rays for the production of electricity, renewable energy sources are obtained, energy efficiency is improved and harmful CO₂ emissions are reduced by as much as 913,755 kg per year, and the bill for electricity consumption is also reduced.
Milan Stojković, IT director of the D Express company, points out that the idea of building a solar power plant for self-consumption arose primarily for environmental reasons:
- Reducing the energy consumption of such a large company is a significant step in environmental protection.
As a company that employs more than 1,200 people, delivers more than 60,000 parcels per day, owns 750 vehicles and more than 20 distribution centers throughout Serbia, D Express has initiated the awakening of environmental awareness among companies in Serbia.
However, the reasons are not only ecological but also economic. Bearing in mind the constant increase in electricity prices and the possibility of a reduction of 20 to 50% in the future, Stojković points out:
- We will become aware of the economic benefits of such changes only in the future.
Stojković points out that large projects are always challenging to implement, and the construction of a solar power plant is no exception. When you take into account the size of the installation facility - 7,250 m², finding a supplier wasn`t easy either. According to Stojković, the implementation was made even more difficult by difficulties in the production of electrical equipment, caused by the economic situation in the world.

Despite the challenges on the way to a cleaner and healthier environment, the project was successfully completed after six months. The construction of a solar power plant for own consumption is at the same time the initiation of a new vision of the relationship with the environment, as well as with business.
D Express is an example that every individual and company can participate in saving energy and reducing harmful gas emissions.
- After the completion of the construction and commissioning of the power plant, we look forward to every sunny day even more and look at the production graphs like children, feeling as if we personally produced every kilowatt of energy, even though the power plant is responsible for it. We are happy that with every kilowatt produced in this way we are reducing the bad impact on the environment - Stojković concluded.
With this project, D Express once again confirms that it is a company that brings positive and meaningful innovations to Serbia, not only in the domain of improving its services, but also in terms of welfare for the community and the planet.
