Preparation of Spatial and Technical Documentation for Construction of Gas Interconnection Between Serbia and North Macedonia Begins

Parallel with the construction of the gas interconnection Serbia-Bulgaria, Serbia has begun preparing spatial and technical documentation for the construction of a gas interconnection between Serbia and North Macedonia, stated the minister of mining and energy of Serbia, Dubravka Djedovic.

This project has been cited on several occasions as important for the diversification of gas supply for Serbia. Let us remind that, back in November 2021, the then minister of mining and energy of Serbia, Zorana Mihajlovic, and the minister of economy of North Macedonia, Kreshnik Bekteshi, agreed the forming of the work group for the construction of a gas interconnection between the two countries, which would be run by representatives of the competent ministries.

The director of Srbijagas, Dusan Bajatovic, has also emphasized the importance of the construction of this interconnector several times.

– We also have to do an interconnector to North Macedonia, that is a request from Europe. The idea is to also gasify Leskovac. Two huge factories are supposed to be built in Vranje – Bajatovic said.

With the construction of the gas interconnection with North Macedonia, Serbia will have the opportunity to connect to the Southern Gas Corridor.
