Vesic: From Belgrade to Ljubljana in little over 2 hours, by high-speed train

The reconstruction of the Belgrade-Zagreb-Ljubljana railroad and the introduction of a high-speed train, as well as the establishment of a night train from Ljubljana to Belgrade, were the topics of the meeting between the Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure Goran Vesic and his colleague, the Minister of Infrastructure of Slovenia Alenka Bratusek in Bled.

- We talked about the night train, Minister Bratusek's idea, and we accepted it. It is very important to us, and I am glad that we obviously all agree to prioritize the development of the railway, which is an ecological and faster mode of transportation, and Europe insists on it - added Vesic.

He emphasized that more meetings will be arranged to refine the exact plan of the high-speed rail and added that it will allow us to truly be connected in a faster manner.

Vesic said that it will take "just over two hours" to get from Ljubljana to Belgrade.

- At the moment, we have built 85 km of high-speed rail, we are building 108 km towards Hungary and another 228 km towards the south, and it is very important for us to connect with Europe through the corridor that goes through Slovenia, so the people can have the possibility to use high-speed trains - Vesic said, according to the ministry's official website.

He said that he had already talked to Minister Salvini in Italy in this regard.

- We agreed to initiate a joint meeting between Italy, Austria, Slovenia, Croatia and Serbia, with the participation of the European Commission, to create a joint body that would coordinate the work on the railroad reconstruction and prepare the timetable and everything else that ensues once we introduce high-speed trains - pointed out Vesic.

He emphasized that it would be great for all countries, because people would be connected, and goods would go faster, adding that we already have an established and functioning goods terminal with Slovenia.

The Minister of Infrastructure of Slovenia, Alenka Bratusek, added that in this year's budget they have reserved over 420 million EUR for the railway reconstruction in Slovenia, that they have about 1,200 kilometers of rail and they will soon restore a large part of the railway infrastructure.

- The most important project in Slovenia right now is the Divaca - Kopar railway, which will enable our Port of Kopar to become as competitive as possible and that goods from the Port of Kopar will be able to go to Serbia more quickly - she added.
