Spanish tourism has recovered from the strong blow caused by the coronavirus pandemic and recorded 71.2 million foreign tourists in 2022. Travelers from our region are more and more numerous with each year.

Thanks to the Air Serbia flights which will connect Belgrade with Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia, Malaga and Palma de Mallorca this year, the Tourism Organization of Spain expects a higher number of Serbian guests in 2023 and announces an intensive promotional campaign in our country.

Spain is among the leading countries in international tourism. When it comes to leisure tourism, this country is the most successful destination in the world, and there are many reasons for the leading position. Spain has 53 biosphere reserves on the UNESCO list, it is the fourth world destination on the UNESCO World Heritage List, and as many as 250 restaurants have a total of 350 Michelin stars. However, the most important reason why this country is a leader in international tourism is in fact its openness, friendliness and hospitality, as well as the strong dedication of the Spanish tourism to social, economic and environmental sustainability.

The Tourism Organization of Spain expects even more foreign guests in 2023 than in the pre-pandemic year of 2019, thanks to the rich cultural program it has prepared. This year is a year of important anniversaries for Spain.

This year marks 50 years from the death of Pablo Picasso, whose art defined the 20th century. On that occasion, numerous exhibitions and cultural events will be organized in the cities which have a special connection with this universal artist, such as his birthplace of Malaga, as well as A Coruna, Barcelona, Madrid and Bilbao.

The year 2023 also marks 100 years from the death of another important painter, Joaquin Sorolla, known as the master of light, who, like no one before or after, depicted the light of Spain and Valencia, his place of birth, in his paintings. This anniversary will be marked by special exhibitions, guided tours and thematic gastronomy.

The impressive architecture of Barcelona does not owe its fame just to Gaudi, but also to the well-known Catalan modernist architect Lluis Domenech i Montaner. The 100th anniversary of his death will be marked in Barcelona, and the city has prepared thematic walking routes so that the tourists could explore Barcelona and enjoy it on their own.

– Thanks to the direct flights of the Serbian national airline carrier to five destinations in Spain, we are now even closer to you, and we will welcome you with arms wide open and do everything for you to experience an unforgettable journey – Isabel Garana, the tourism consultant at the Embassy of Spain and the director of the Spanish Agency for Promotion of Tourism, emphasized during the Belgrade Tourism Fair.
