Trade Between Serbia and Spain to Reach EUR 1 Billion by Year-End

The Chamber of Commerce of Serbia and the Spanish Chamber of Commerce signed today at the Business Forum “Serbia-Spain” the Memorandum of Understanding which will contribute to a stronger connecting of the economies of the two countries, new investments in high-tech, automotive industry, environmental protection, energy efficiency, development of renewable energy sources and infrastructure.

The Memorandum of Understanding between the two chambers was signed by Mihajlo Vesovic, the director of the Sector for Internationalization of the CCIS, and Inmaculada Riera, the director general of the Spanish Chamber of Commerce, the CCIS announced.

– We have finally reached the right moment to put Serbia and Spain in the focus of our economic and trade relations. Our trade cooperation this year will certainly reach EUR 1 billion and that is a great success and a great step forward compared to the previous year – Vesovic pointed out at the Business Forum.

Riera emphasized that the two countries had remarkable bilateral relations and that there needed to be additional efforts toward strengthening the economic cooperation. According to her, the memorandum and other agreements signed with Serbia would additionally improve the cooperation of the Serbian and Spanish economies. She reminded that, up till then, Spain had invested around EUR 1 billion in Serbia and called for an even stronger cooperation and joint projects between Spanish and Serbian companies.


At the forum, which gathered around 150 local business people and representatives of 17 Spanish companies, the speakers also included Marta Blanco, the president of the Spanish Confederation of Business Organizations (CEOE International), and Raul Bartolome, the ambassador of Spain to Serbia, according to the press release by the CCIS. The new minister of trade of Serbia, Tomislav Momirovic, and his Spanish colleague, Reyes Maroto, also attended the forum.
