The bridge on the Matejevac River, on the IIB-grade state road no. 426 in the village of Gornji Matejevac, section Nis Istok Interchange-Malca, is to be demolished, and a new one is to be built in its place.

This is said in the preliminary project that the company Mostprojekt from Belgrade prepared at the request of the investor, the PE Roads of Serbia. The project has been confirmed by the Ministry of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure.

The bridge was built back in 1910, and in the past period it has already been reconstructed, which has increased the load on the columns and the infrastructure, the project says.

– Considering the current condition of the columns, it is not recommendable to additionally burden them, so the demolition of the existing bridge and the construction of a new one is envisaged – the document explains.

The plan is also to build a new bridge with a driving lane width of 9 meters and footpaths on both sides of the bride structure, as well as to reconstruct the access route and regulate the waterway.
