Ministry: We Have Not Been Consulted About Hiring the Norwegian Company for Consulting Services in Energy

The Ministry of Mining and Energy announced today that it had not been consulted about the signing of the agreement of the Government of Serbia with the Norwegian company Rystad Energy about doing an analysis of the electrical energy sector and preparing development guidelines. The ministry said that they had not proposed “this act, nor are the funds available to the ministry planned for its execution”.

– The adopted decision of the Government of Serbia carries the confidentiality tag and therefore cannot be published, nor can its contents be commented on – the ministry said in their response to Beta regarding the jobs that the Norwegian company was hired for.

According to the Belgrade media, the minister of finance of Serbia, Sinisa Mali, on behalf of the Government of Serbia and with the approval of the prime minister, Ana Brnabic, signed the agreement with the Norwegian company Rystad Energy, which carries the strictly confidential tag, and the company should register the problems in energy and define three potential courses of action – a quick transition (strong investments in new energy and new technology), a slow transition (a higher reliance on the existing energy, lower investments in new energy), a third phase (the use of new nuclear technology).

The value of the agreement on the advisory arrangement with the Norwegian company is USD 1.55 million, and it entails potential talks about the inflow of private capital in Elektroprivreda Srbije (EPS) and the transformation from a public company into a joint-stock company.
