Building of Municipality of Vozdovac Gets Green Roof – New Projects Ready as Well, Subsidies Planned

The ecological project “Green Roof”, prepared within the Action Plan for the adaptation to climate change, has been realized on the building of the Municipality of Vozdovac.

– This is an example of how all flat roofs should look like, not just on public institutions, but on all buildings where there’s such a possibility. The Municipality of Vozdovac also has other projects and ideas ready for other public institutions on its municipality, which we also need to do, just like we’ve done this roof on the municipality’s building – said the president of the City Assembly, Nikola Nikodijevic, as reported by Beoinfo.

Nikodijevic pointed out that the greening of roofs had numerous advantages, such as good thermal and water insulation, as well as power savings.

– In the winter, heat is retained here, in the summer, it’s cooler, so less energy is consumed. Furthermore, this project also has its aesthetic part, so in the future, weddings will be held here as well, considering that a wonderful panoramic view can be seen from here.

As this truly has its practical advantages, it is up to us to find a system for how to offer to citizens who live in individual and collective residential households to make green roofs on their buildings. Considering that such projects are not exactly cheap, we will have to see how to subsidize a part of the costs, so that the citizens could finance the realization over several years.

This is surely the future, because Belgrade is an urban city and that is why, in urban areas, we need to seek each corner where we will be able to plant greenery. It will primarily have a positive impact on environmental protection, which is part of the strategy adopted by the city parliament – Nikodijevic emphasized and added that other municipalities would follow the example of Vozdovac and that, several years later, there would be more such roofs in the capital of Serbia.
