The state secretary at the Ministry of Energy, Zoran Lakicevic, said on RTS that we could save 20% of energy without any investments through the rational use of boilers, electric stoves, washing machines and fridges.

Lakicevic explained that we could achieve a 5% saving on an electricity bill using the boiler rationally – by setting the adequate temperature on the heater, by showering instead of bathing, but also by not showering for so long.

He points out that we can save an additional 5% by using the electric stove more rationally.

– An electric stove brings us a 5% saving. You should take care how you’re cooking, whether you’re putting on a large pot on a small hotplate or vice versa – he emphasized.

It is a saving of 10%, but if we want to save 20%, Lakicevic explained, we then set the fridge temperature to a maximum of 4 degrees, and the temperature of the freezer to a maximum of 18 degrees.

– That brings us a saving of another 5% – he said.

We can save an additional 5% if we pay attention to how we’re using the washing machine.

– We should use more economic programs, always having the machine full, not drying the laundry in the machine, but at room temperature, all of which brings us a 20% saving altogether – Lakicevic notes.

As he said, around 42% of the entire energy consumption in Serbia is down to households.

– So the implementation of these measures is very important, we can save a lot on the state level, and the households themselves can save within their budgets – Lakicevic estimates.

According to Lakicevic, if we want to realize a 30% saving, the solution lies in replacing old bulbs with LED lights.

– LED lights spend ten times less energy than regular bulbs, last ten times longer and lead to great savings – Lakicevic says.

According to him, new-generation class A devices and appliances bring great savings.

– By replacing old devices with a new generation, which is more energy efficient, you can save up to 50% in a household, but that requires certain investments – Lakicevic concluded.
