So far, Serbia has spent EUR 1.5 billion on the import on electricity and gas, stated the minister of energy, Zorana Mihajlovic.

She said that the situation in energy was dramatic in the whole Europe and that the price of electrical energy in markets was EUR 563 per megawatt-hour, whereas it was EUR 90 the year before.

– Those are abnormal prices that no state can withstand. We have so far spent EUR 1.5 billion on the import of electricity and gas, we are facing all that and much more until spring if the prices continue growing – Mihajlovic said on TV Happy and repeated that we would also import electricity during the winter.

As announced on the website of the Government of Serbia, the minister pointed out that “for us, the most important thing is to secure, by March, enough money for Serbia to pay for energy and to be able to produce and to have places to import sufficient quantities from”.

She also said that Serbia still had the lowest price of electricity in Europe and that the price increase of 6.5% will make for a difference per bill of 250 to 320 dinars.

She emphasized that savings needed to be considered and that the first item there was energy efficiency – what our windows and doors are like, what we use for heating and the possibility of installing solar panels.

– The surge in energy efficiency will take place next year, the state has secured enough money, we will help with subsidies of 50% – she said and pointed to the crucial importance of investments in the energy sector.
