Steam power plant Nikola Tesla (TENT) in Obrenovac introduced today a new system for collection, transport and disposal of ash at the steam power plant Nikola Tesla B. The value of the project is €30 million, over 28m of which have been provided by the EU in the form of donations.

As people at the Electric Power Company of Serbia (EPS) announced, this project is an important example of modernization of the EPS, while the new technology of low-water transport of ash and slag shall enable a significant reduction of negative influence of landfills on the environment.

Minister of Environment and Spatial Planning Oliver Dulic pointed out that the new system of ash purification at the TENT Block B would enable annual savings of almost 18 million tonnes of water.

- Thanks to the use of the new system, approximately 25,000 tonnes of ash were used in cement production this year - said Dulic.

- The system's trial operation period was ended today and it has showed that only one liter of water is needed for treatment of one kilogram of ash, while the old system used 10 to 15 liters of water for treatment of the same quantity of ash - Dulic pointed out.

Head of the EU Delegation in Serbia Vincent Degert said that the EU would grant €21 million to support the project of installation of electric filters in TENT's blocks A6, B1 and B2.

- With the construction of the new system, commercial use of ash in the cement and construction industry will be made possible for the first time, as well as in the road economy - said PD TENT CEO Petar Knezevic.

EPS Director General Dragomir Markovic pointed out that that company was already the leader in the field of environment protection in Serbia.

- Prior to 2015, we intend to invest 1.2 billion euros in these projects. About 0.5 billion euros will be invested only in desulfurization projects in power plants in Obrenovac. We are already negotiating on financing of these project. This system that has been officially put in operation today represents the best and latest technology available in contemporary world nowadays - said Drаgomir Mаrkovic, the Director General of public company EPS.
