Air Serbia will establish a direct air line from September or October. The president of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, said that he believed that “Air Serbia will fly to Tianjin, which is only an hour or less away from Beijing, in northeast China”, as reported on the RTS website.

An airplane of the Chinese company Hainan Airlines landed on Saturday morning at the Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport, which marked the re-establishment of the direct line between the capitals of Serbia and China after four years.

– For now, the this will be a weekly flight, and from September or October, we will fly to China twice a week – Vucic said.

He said that the flight would take nine and a half hours and estimated that the air line, which would carry the name of the Serbian scientist Mihajlo Pupin, would attract a larger number of Chinese tourists and business people to Serbia.

Vucic also announced that, in the next period, Air Serbia would establish a direct line to Chicago.

When asked whether quarantine would be mandatory for passengers coming from China to Serbia, considering that such measures are in effect for entrance to China, Vucic said that there were “no restrictive measures, no kind of quarantine for anyone”.

– People are landing normally, and I hope that, soon, there will be no problems with going to China either. China is a disciplined, responsible country, so I don’t believe that there will be serious problems. We will get the least amount of Covid from China, because they are disciplined unlike all of us on our continent – estimated the president of Serbia.

The ambassador of China to Belgrade, Chen Bo, who arrived on the Hainan Airlines flight, stated that the line would boost the cooperation of the two countries and strengthen the position of Serbia as a regional traffic hub.

She said that the opening of the direct air line was the result of the quick realization of the consensus between the two presidents, Xi Jinping and Aleksandar Vucic, on “the constant upgrade of the cooperation of the two countries”.

– Facing numerous big challenges in the world, the steel-strength relations of our two countries maintain the vital trend of development, which is in the interest of our two sides and the peoples of the two countries – Chen Bo said.

The plane was also welcomed by the minister of finance, Sinisa Mali, the minister of construction, transport and infrastructure, Tomislav Momirovic, the CEO of Vinci Serbia, Francois Berisot, and the CEO of Air Serbia, Jiri Marek.

For now, Hainan Airlines will fly on Saturdays only from Tianjin through Beijing to Belgrade.

Hainan Airlines started operating the line from Beijing to Belgrade through Prague in September 2017, but the flights were terminated in late 2018.
