How to Get a Sauna at One’s Own Home – Choose a Space and Enjoy the Experience in Five Days

Spa and wellness have long since become part of the offer of hotels, spas and special-purpose centers, and they are chosen by all those who want to relax from stress or simply indulge themselves. Still, a step farther has been made, so you don’t even have to leave your own home to get a special treatment.

More precisely, the construction of saunas at homes is recording a continuous growth in the local market. As the company Wellness House, founded by Vasa Trejd d.o.o. from Razanj in 2013, says for eKapija, since the outbreak of the coronavirus, the interest in the construction of wellness features at home has increased considerably.

– Absolutely everybody who has unused or poorly used space, regardless of whether they live in an apartment or a house, opts for this kind of oasis. Depending on the budget, the demand consists of “basic” features or expanded features and several different wellness spaces (tepidariums, salt rooms, steam baths, experience showers etc.) – says Valentina Jovanovic.

She adds that clients most often opt for the construction of a dry Finnish sauna or an infrared sauna, and more rarely for a bio sauna.

– Our recommendation is always in line with the client’s affinities and the capacities of the space they have at their disposal for these features, so each offer is individual. Our general recommendation is that the space needs to have a base of at least 1.5 x 1 m, and it’s certainly good to have more – she notes.
A Finnish sauna is made of wood and heated by a special furnace at a temperature between 80 and 110 degrees Celsius. They usually use dry heat, with relative humidity at 10-30% for the most part. As skin temperature grows, intense sweating starts to occur. The heartbeat rate increases when the body tries to cool itself.

An infrared sauna is made of aspen, abachi, or Finnish spruce wood and has an average temperature of 40-55 degrees Celsius. By heating the infra heaters at the infra sauna, a sensation is created of a special experience, which creates additional energy and raises efficiency and concentration. The specific scent of the infra sauna, combined with the scent of the wood, additionally contributes to stress relief.

A bio sauna is a combination of a sauna and a steam bath. The effects of a bio sauna are improved by adding the aroma of the eucalyptus or other medicinal plants. A bio sauna is very suitable for people who find Finnish saunas too hot and steam baths too humid. This kind of a treatment is beneficial to the bloodstream and relaxes the body in a comfortable way, without too much effort.
She also points out that no special pre-conditions are needed for the building of a sauna. Everything you need is a formed space with an opening for the door, that is, the portal (a glass panel or several of them, as per the user’s preference), a power supply (cable) of two meters, supplying the electrical installations of the sauna, and the floor of the sauna needs to be covered in ceramics and socles of 8-10 cm.

– The construction of the sauna itself is done on spot (along with the connecting and the commissioning) and the construction period is four to five work days. The beginning of the works is preceded by the purchase of the materials and the harmonization of the schedule with the investor in line with the scope of the project and the desires of the investor – Jovanovic says.

When it comes to the price, it is determined by several factors: the size of the sauna, the choice of the covering (Finnish spruce, aspen, abachi, thermowood), the door or the glass portal, the electric or wood-based furnace, additional equipment (Himalayan bricks, decorative stones, exterior wall covering, automatic aroma sprinklers and so on).

– The basic sauna, with a base of 2 x 1.5 m, with two benches (+ masks + back rests), a floor grid, a door – 8mm toughened glass, a 4.5 kW Harvia Wega furnace with external controls in a formed space, can be gotten for about EUR 3,100 to 3,800, without the VAT, depending on the choice of the covering – says eKapija’s interviewee.
