The company Serbian Railways Infrastructure has announced that the rail traffic on the section between Novi Sad and Subotica will be stopped from April 7, due to the continuation of the works on the construction of the Belgrade-Budapest railway, for train speeds of 200 km/h.

During the pause in the rail traffic between Novi Sad and Subotica, trains will operate on the main auxiliary route Novi Sad/Novi Sad Ranzirna (Classification Yard)-Rasputnica (Junction) Sajlovo-Odzaci-Bogojevo-Sombor-Subotica and the additional auxiliary route Novi Sad/Novi Sad Ranzirna (Classification Yard)-Rasputnica (Junction) Sajlovo-Rimski Sancevi-Orlovat-Zrenjanin-Banatsko Milosevo-Senta-Subotica.

The works on the Novi Sad-Kelebija section began in November 2021. The deadline period for the completion of the works is 33 months from the full stopping of the traffic on the entire route from Novi Sad to Subotica. That means that the completion of the Novi Sad-Subotica railway is planned by the end of 2024.

The contractor is the Chinese consortium of China Railway International and China Communications Construction Company, and the value of the agreement is USD 1.16 billion.

The project of the construction of the fast railway between Novi Sad and Kelebija encompasses the route of the two-track railway and station with structures on the railway, the reconstruction and modernization of the rail hubs Novi Sad, Vrbas and Subotica, the deleveling of the road and pedestrian-cycling lane crossings, as well as the installation of the electrical infrastructure which enables a safe traffic at projected speeds and the implementation of the European system of rail management.

Within the construction of the railway for high speeds between Novi Sad and Kelebija, a total of 49 underpasses, overpasses and similar structures will be built.

The project entails the reconstruction of nine railway stations (Novi Sad, Sajlovo, Kisac, Stepanovicevo, Zmajevo, Backa Topola, Zednik, Naumovicevo and Subotica), as well as three new stations with station capacities (Rumenka, Vrbas and Lovcenac).
