A system for monitoring a baby’s temperature, a device with video games for rehabilitation for neurological diseases, a mobile CT scanner, as well as innovative products against Helicobacter pylori and for mitigating diabetes symptoms are the latest achievements of our innovators, who had the opportunity last week to present their innovations at Expo 2020 Dubai. The topic of healthcare was in the focus of the eighth week of the show, and the five projects that are part of the StarTech program were presented at this world event with the support of the company Philip Morris, the NALED and the Chamber of Commerce of Serbia (CCIS).
On this occasion, the startup BabyFm presented a system for a continuous, comfortable taking of temperature for small children with the help of sensors, and it was announced that the testing of this product would begin not long after at the Tirsova clinic. Also, the public’s attention was drawn by the Neuroblast team, which is developing a new sensor device, connected with modern video games, which will be used for home physical therapy of neurology patients and thereby help with the regeneration of brain cells.
At the fair, strategic partners from the pharmaceutical industry were also sought by Dia Solution, a startup created within the Institute for Molecular Genetics and Genetic Engineering, which has designed an innovative natural probiotic for mitigating the symptoms of diabetes, and the company HerbElixa, whose team has developed the dietetic supplement HerbELICO, based on medicinal herbs, highly efficient in fighting Helicobacter pylori. The company TechnoNaiss Group presented a modern technological solution for a medical scanner which enables a 10 to 15 times lower level of harmful X-ray radiation compared to the existing devices, and with additional adjustments, it will also be suitable for field use, for example, in an ambulance.
Another three companies from the StarTech community took part in Expo 2020 – Sentiguide, White Lemur and Uniplast – which presented projects for the implementation of AI technologies in healthcare, the development of products for the strengthening of immunity and the production of modern packaging for medical products. Promotion at international fairs is an important pillar of the StarTech program and is what sets it apart from similar initiatives.
– In addition to the monetary help, we wanted to provide the grantees with the opportunity to be part of large world events, because events such as these are places where experiences are exchanged and new business opportunities are created. We will continue paying attention to the community and additionally adjusting the program to the needs of the candidates, because we believe that, as a company with big experience in the field of innovations, we can contribute to the creation of a stimulating environment for the development of a knowledge-based economy – emphasized Dragana Vujko, Senior Manager of Corporate Affairs at Philip Morris, a company which designed and supported this three-year program with USD 5 million. The program is carried out by the NALED, in cooperation with the Government of Serbia.
At the first contest of the StarTech program, 29 local small and medium companies got financial and mentoring help (close to a million dollars in total) with digitizing the business, developing innovative products and services, achieving an accelerated growth and starting to conquer the local and international markets. The second of the three annual contests will open in March 2022, and more details on the program and the application conditions are available on the platform Startech.org.rs.
