The Decree on the capping of prices of some basic foodstuffs expires on February 8, and the Government of Serbia and the Ministry of Trade are considering its extension. World economists estimate that the inflation will not settle down in the first half of 2022 either, so the Decree is most likely to be extended by six months, the competent ministry says.

According to the report of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization, the prices of food and ingredients in Europe jumped 28.1% last year. In Serbia, last year, the prices of oil and flour increased around 30%, whereas pork leg is 27% more expensive, the competent ministry says.

In order to prevent market turbulence, in late 2021, the Government of Serbia decided to limit the prices of oil, flour, sugar, milk and pork leg to the level of November 15, 2021, in order to protect the most socially vulnerable groups of the populace and the market from an uncontrolled price growth.

As we learn, the list of products subject to the decree, consisting of oil, flour, sugar, milk and pork leg, will not be expanded.
