Gold in Homolje Not to be Exploited Using Cyanide, Zorana Mihajlovic Confirms

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Mining and Energy Zorana Mihajlovic stated today that gold mining at Homolje with the cyanide leaching technique is out of question because it is harmful to the environment.

In a statement to Tanjug news agency occasioned by a protest in the village of Laznica near Zagubica over the announced building of a gold mine at Homolje, Mihajlovic underlined that no one will do something against their own country and that the only thing that can be considered are technologies which are in line with European and world standards, it is said in an announcement of the Government of Serbia.

Mihajlovic also warned that, at the same time, there are illegal landfills everywhere and that there’s everyday neglect toward the environment.

We all need to change our awareness slowly and realize that it is all part of our country, but we know just as well that the laws of our country need to comply with all the European and world standards, Mihajlovic emphasized.
