The new weapon arrived to the country on Thursday evening, according to unofficial information, and it was transported by the Russian transport aircraft Ilyushin Il-76, which landed at the military airport “Pukovnik Pilot Milenko Pavlovic” in Batajnica. The missiles and the launchers were transported by freight trucks to the military storage sites, where the reception procedure will be carried out. This is to be followed by the testing phase and the formal introduction into the ordnance of the Serbian Armed Forces.
The Kornet system, which is procured through the Russian exporting company Rosoboronexport, is considered to be the top-class antitank missile technology. It is a guided and very mobile system, whose missiles are laser-guided. “One hit, one enemy tank less” is the phrase which describes the efficiency of these Russian missiles.
The plan is to use this weapon in infantry units, on domestic armored vehicles Milos. The Russian “tank killer” should replace the domestic antitank missile Malyutka, which, even in its modernized version, is no longer capable of meeting serious technological challenges.
