The first one entails the upgrade of the management of the public transport system, the second the control of the operators, that is, the transporters in the system, and the third has to do with increasing public transport fare collection, explained Jovica Vasiljevic, the city secretary for transport, during the international regional seminar “Modernization of Public Transport in Belgrade”.
One of the results of the project will be a study which will give recommendations for how to upgrade the system to become more functional.
The deputy mayor of Belgrade, Goran Vesic, estimated that Belgrade needed a reorganization of transport.
– By 2030, both subway lines will be built and we will predominantly switch to a rail system of public transport, which is a big change which requires an entirely different organization. We expect for the agreement on the reconstruction and construction of the BG Voz system to be signed by the end of this month, which is planned to be done over five to six years. We will also do 42.6 kilometers of new tram lines – Vesic pointed out.
The ambassador of Japan to Serbia, Takahiko Katsumata, has stated that he expected this project to improve the quality of air. As he says, that is the main problem in Belgrade that needs to be solved.
