Employers Want Electricity Prices to Increase Gradually and to Be Announced on Time

The companies gathered within the Serbian Association of Employers (UPS) believe that the increase of the prices of electrical energy for companies should be controlled and announced on time, so that companies could adapt their business on time, because that is the only way to maintain the liquidity and competitiveness of the economy and enable an adequate living standard for the citizens.

This conclusion, UPS announced, was sent from today’s meeting of the Social-Economic Council (SES).

Earlier, SES launched an initiative for the regulation of electricity prices for the economy, which was followed by a reaction from the Government of Serbia and the decision to postpone, by a month, the implementation of the new agreements on the more expensive electricity, the announcement says.

It is pointed out that UPS, as a further argument in favor of its request for a controlled electricity price increase, has carried out a survey among its members and that the results have shown that 60.5% of the employers believe that the growth of the electricity prices should be controlled, whereas the others believe that the solution lies in subsidizing lower electricity prices for the economy.

Three quarters of company representatives believe that the electricity price increase will directly lower the living standard for the citizens, whereas two thirds believe that it will cause a decrease in the liquidity of the local economy.

UPS says that most of the surveyed employers said that the electricity was already expensive enough and that a further increase would lead to an increase in the prices of the final products or services they offer.

For a certain number of the surveyed subjects, a 10% price increase would be acceptable, and considerably fewer companies would be able to accept a 20% increase, whereas only a few employers said that the electricity price increase would not affect their business.
