Mali: Works on Construction of BG Subway to Begin on November 22

The works on the construction of the Belgrade Subway are to begin in Makisko Polje on November 22, the finance minister of Serbia, Sinisa Mali, announced today.

Following the signing of the agreement on the Project of the construction of the infrastructure and the establishment of the flat area for the subway depot in Makisko Polje with the company Power China, Mali said that “the signing of this document officially marks the beginning of the construction of the first subway line” (from Makisko Polje to Mirijevo).

– On Monday, November 22, you will see a great number of workers in Makisko Polje – Mali said.

The minister of construction of Serbia, Tomislav Momirovic, who signed the agreement with representatives of the Chinese company, announced that the first line would be completed in 2028 and the second one in 2030.

Momirovic says that serious preparations preceded the signing of the first agreement, considering that subway construction projects are very difficult and expensive.

– No city the size of Belgrade can develop without a subway. If we want to improve the traffic and the environmental perspective of Belgrade, we have to build the subway system – said the minister of construction.

He also points out that the project of the Belgrade subway brings a development perspective not just for Belgrade but also for the Serbian economy.

The agreement was signed by Momirovic, the city secretary for residential and municipal affairs, Nikola Kovacevic, the director of the Belgrade Land Development Public Agency, Dusica Andjelkovic, and the authorized representative of Power China, Yang Bo.
