Lawyers to Stop All Activities for a Day

The Bar Association of Serbia (AKS) has reached the decision for lawyers to stop all activities for a day, which takes place on September 24, as announced on the association’s website. On this day, the lawyers of Serbia will not participate in procedures at courts and other organs, without exception.

– The halt pertains to all procedures, including the so-called apprehension and detention procedures, procedures against minors and procedures based on temporary measures. During the halt, lawyers may prepare written submissions related to deadlines in situations when the party would lose the right to submit a legal remedy or suffer irreparable damages – the decision says.

They add that the citizens should be notified through the media about the halt and the consequences, along with “the information that the only culprit for the halt can be the Supreme Court of Cassation (VKS)”.

The most recent position of VKS, by which “banks have the right to charge insurance premiums at NKOSK (The National Corporation for Housing Loan Insurance)”, has caused a big pushback from the lawyers.
