Agrarian Foreign Trade Worth EUR 3.1 Billion – Increase by 11.7%

The agriculture and the food industry in Serbia realized foreign trade worth nearly EUR 3.1 billion in the first six months of the current year, which is an increase of 11.7% compared to the same period in 2020.

According to the website of the Chamber of Commerce of Serbia (CCIS), goods worth EUR 1.98 billion were exported, which is an increase of 13.6% compared to the results from 2020, making up 19.6% of the total goods export, as shown by the data of the Statistical Office of the Republic of Serbia (RZS). The imports were worth close to EUR 1.12 billion, which is 8.4% more compared to the first six months of 2020, with a participation in the total goods exports of 8.6%.

A foreign trade surplus of EUR 859.4 million was realized when it comes to the agricultural-food products in the first six months of this year, which is an increase of 21.1% compared to the first half of 2020. The export-import coverage ratio is 177% and is higher than in the same period last year, when it was 169%.

The most important agrarian products that were exported in the first half of 2021 are: corn (EUR 298.9 million), frozen raspberries (EUR 137.4 million), wheat (EUR 91.1 million), cigarettes which contain tobacco (EUR 88.5 million) and tobacco for smoking (EUR 86.4 million). Observed by the structure of the exports, the most represented products are grains (26.8%), fruit and vegetables (22%), tobacco and tobacco products (9.7%) and beverages (6.8%).

As for the imports, the most significant products are bananas (EUR 35.1 million), various food products (slightly over EUR 55 million), unroasted coffee beans (EUR 22.1 million), cigarettes (EUR 19.7 million) and domestic pork meat (EUR 18 million). Observed by the structure of the imports, the most represented products are fruit and vegetables (24.8%), coffee and tea (11%) and tobacco (8.9%).

The most important foreign trade partners of Serbia in the first half of this year when it comes to exports are EU states, which account for 55.8% of the exports (EUR 1,102.9 million), followed by the CEFTA countries with 22.7% (EUR 448.8 million) and RF with 7.8% (EUR 153.6 million). Compared to the same period in 2020, the value of the exports to the EU states increased by 27%, to RF by 14.8% and to the CEFTA countries by 6.6%. The exports to the EU were mostly corn, wheat, white sugar, barley, water, raspberries, soy and others, whereas the products that were most exported to the CEFTA countries were corn, non-alcoholic drinks, edible sunflower oil, cigarettes, wheat, flour…
