Most Famous Mineral Water Spring in Vrnjacka Banja Closed – Low Water Level Causing Great Problems at Slatina Spring

Slatina, one of the most famous mineral water springs in Vrnjacka Banja, which has contributed to the popularization of this spa, was recently closed.

As the president of the Municipality of Vrnjacka Banja, Boban Djurovic, explained, the closing of the spring was caused by a drop in the water levels.

– We had to enter the procedure of cleaning the borehole and reconstruction, to try to see whether those activities can revitalize the spring – Djurovic said in a statement for TV Vrnjacka Banja.

He adds that there are also intensive efforts, in cooperation with a group of experts from the Faculty of Mining and Geology in Belgrade, to solve the problem.

– In the next 10 to 15 days, we will try to see whether that’s really the cause or maybe there’s another cause. Perhaps, after so much time, the borehole itself needs to be revitalized – Djurovic says and adds that other springs in Vrnjacka Banja have a sufficient water level.

According to an analysis made by the PE Belimarkovac, which is in charge of water supply in Vrnjacka Banja, 45-55% of the losses of water resources are down to the poor condition of the infrastructure. Djurovic points out that the biggest problem with the water supply network is in the higher parts of the municipality, but that there are also problems in certain micro locations. According to him, activities toward the improvement of water capacities have already been agreed with the management of the PE Belimarkovac.

– We have agreed to have the water capacities increased in the sense of new boreholes, which can increase the flow by 15 liters per second in the first zone and by 5 liters per second in the second zone (the water supply zone). It takes some 15 days to repair the boreholes, so that they can be connected to the system, whereby additional quantities of water would increase the capacity and solve problems in the parts of Vrnjacka Banja where it is necessary – Djurovic says.

According to TV Vrnjacka Banja, due to the increasing water supply problems, the Municipality of Vrnjacka Banja, in cooperation with the PE Belimarkovac, the Government of Serbia and the Chinese Bank, is already preparing a project for a long-term solution to the water supply problem.
