The debut feature movie by director Ana Lazarevic, The Game (Igra), has been included in the Discovery program of the new, 46th prestigious and popular Toronto International Film Festival.

The Film Center of Serbia reveals the plot: when Strahinja, a smuggler with bad parenting skills and a gambling addiction, get stuck with two immigrant boys in the Balkans backwoods, they are forced to stick to side roads in order to illegally cross to Western Europe. The boys’ pronounced passion for life will lead Strahinja on a path toward gaining awareness of the walls he’s built around himself.

– I want the audience to get to know those characters the way I got to know the people whom they were modeled after. Because, as long as we see the problems of others as troubles that have nothing to do with us, we allow ourselves to remain apathetic – Lazarevic said.

The professional part of the cast is led by Branislav Bane Trifunovic, Sloboda Micalovic, Boris Isakovic and Radoslav Rade Milenkovic, whereas young actors from refugee camps in Serbia play versions of themselves in this movie.

The film was shot between the second half of August and the end of September 2019 in several locations in Serbia.
