Dissatisfied citizens are especially annoyed by the new penalty of RSD 1,000 for unfounded claims and the fee paid for writing the target account number wrong on the payment slip. Consumer protection associations have reacted as well, and the National Bank of Serbia has promised to examine the legality of these fees.
According to the new rulebooks in certain banks, if a client complains that they’ve had money taken off their account by mistake and the bank determines that the claim is unfounded, the fee is RSD 1,000. While the citizens believe that it is just another form of pressure on the clients making them more reluctant to decide to complain, the unofficial explanations by the bankers is that the reason for implementing this fee is to prevent misuse.
If their complaint is rejected and they are charged this controversial fee, clients may address the National Bank of Serbia and their Customer Protection Center.
