Serbian Minister of Mining and Energy Zorana Mihajlovic has visited the works on the construction of the smelter and the desulfuring factory in Bor, as well as the new Cukaru Peki mine, where the test production has started.

Regarding Cukaru Peki, she pointed out that it was the first green mine in Serbia built in line with global environmental standards and that the construction of the mine was an opportunity for standards to be set for other mines in Serbia as well.

Mihajlovic said that mining in Serbia needed to be sustainable and green.

The vice-president of Zijin Mining, Que Chaoyang, pointed out that the company, which operates in 12 countries of the world and which is 398th on the Forbes 500 list, was third when it comes to environmental protection and seventh when it comes to the production of copper.

– The aim of the company is for the municipality and the local populace to develop along with the development of mining – he said and added that they would try to create as many jobs as possible.

He emphasized that desulfuring and waste water treatment were the most important tasks that Zijin will make a full contribution to.

He emphasized the expectation that the development of the two Zijin companies in Serbia, Srbija Zijin Copper, which owns RTB Bor, and Srbija Zijin Mining, which owns the Cukaru Peki mine, will be faster and faster.

The general manager of Zijin Mining, Fu Feilong, confirmed that the test production, entailing analyses of the quality of the ore, were in progress at Cukaru Peki at that time.

He emphasized that a product suitable for the market was being produced and that the arsenic content would not exceed the allowed quantities and that there would be no problems with harmful matters and environmental concerns.
