She said that efforts toward the realization of the idea were to be made in cooperation with the competent institutions, primarily the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, but also the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
As she said, it was concluded at the meeting that there were great possibilities for improving the tourism cooperation of Serbia and Turkey, as well as the bilateral relations, which are already very good.
The minister citied the data that, in the first five months of 2021, the number of Turkish tourists in Serbia grew by as much as 49% compared to last year and emphasized that they were now in the first place when it comes to the arrival of foreign tourists to Serbia.
– It’s interesting that they are staying increasingly long in our country. The average stay of Turkish tourists in Serbia used to be two, two and a half days, and now it is six days – Matic said and added that the data were very encouraging.
According to her, in addition to large cities, such as Belgrade, Novi Sad and Nis, Turkish tourists also like to visit Zlatibor, Kopaonik, Novi Pazar and all the tourist location along the way to that city.
She reminded that Turkey had invested considerable funds in Serbia in the preceding decades, primarily through its development agency TIKA, but also through other agencies.
Matic said that those were investments in projects which pertained to the renewal of the cultural-historical heritage, but also education, social protection and agriculture.
Ersoy said that Serbia and Turkey would make sure that the citizens of both countries can travel to the other country with an ID card only.
– For Serbia, Turkey is third as a destination, and we want it to be first, and that is why we are giving the advantage to Serbia – the minister said.
