Croatia to Cancel Chamber of Commerce Membership Fee for 95% of Companies

The Croatian government has put the Draft Law on the Croatian Chamber of Commerce (HGK), which envisages the cancelation of the membership fee for over 95% of companies, into the parliamentary procedure, stated the minister of economy and sustainable development, Tomislav Coric.

The draft law envisages the implementation of a model of determining the membership fee, whereby the members are divided into three groups, based on three criteria.

The first group includes those members of HGK which do not exceed two of the three criteria – that their total assets do not go over 7.5 million kunas (EUR 1.0 million), that the total annual income does not go over 15 million kunas (EUR 2.0 million) and that the number of the employees is not higher than 50 people.

The second group includes those which do not exceed two of these three criteria – total assets up to 30 million kunas (EUR 4.0 million), total income of 60 million kunas (EUR 8.0 million) and up to 250 employees, whereas the third group includes those who exceed two of the three criteria that apply to the second group.

HGK members from the first group will not have the obligation of paying the membership fee, but they will have to pay for the special services and products of HGK in line with the price list. The members of the second and third groups still have to pay the membership fee, and the fee is set for each group by the HGK assembly every year by a special decision.

– The implementation of the possibility of voluntary membership for the first group, which is also the most numerous, aims to stimulate and modernize the chamber system and offer new services that would attract new members and motivate the old ones to remain members – Coric said.
