Following Zijin, Capacities of Port of Bar Potentially to be Used by Zelezara Smederevo Too

After a long time, companies Montecargo, Srbija Kargo and Luka Bar (Port of Bar) are once again acting as a single team, their cooperation contributing to the realization of the leading projects and investments in the transportation market of Montenegro and Serbia, as announced by the Ministry of Capital Investments of Montenegro. As said, as a result of this cooperation, an agreement was reached for Zijin to reload copper through the Port of Bar, and there are also negotiations with Zelezara Smederevo (Smederevo Steel Mill).

– Advocating joints goals, whose biggest priority is the affirmation of upgraded services in transport and contributing to the improvement of the two state’s economies, these companies will strive to help each other in the future period, both in terms of means of transport and in solving all the technical issues which are part of international business operations – the press release says.

As the ministry points out, one proof of the successful business cooperation between the three companies, thanks to which joint results are already being achieved, is the trust given by Chinese company Zijin by redirecting the transport of ore on this corridor.

On this occasion, more than a week ago, a meeting was held between representatives of Zijin Group from Bor, Srbija Kargo, Trans Cargo Logistic, Montecargo and the Port of Bar, as well as representatives of the Montenegrin Ministry of Capital Investments.

The business arrangements made up till then were discussed at the meeting and there was talk about the preparation of plans for the use of capacities of the Port of Bar for the reloading of Zijin’s cargo in the upcoming period.

– The representatives of all companies agreed to realize a project which entails the reloading of 350 to 400 thousand tons of copper concentrate in the current year by joining forces in the upcoming period, along with a considerable increase to 700 thousand tons each in 2022 and 2023 – the ministry specified.

Also, said companies are already negotiating with Zelezara Smederevo about redirecting their product to the corridor toward the Port of Bar, which would achieve full valorization of the logistics route through the Port of Bar.

– Also, a project has been agreed which pertains to a synthesis of the subjects of the strategic logistics chain Srbija Kargo – Montecargo – Port of Bar, that is, a joint market presentation of those companies, so that it would be implemented in line with the modern terms of providing logistics to the users, that is, the economies of both states – the press release concludes.
