The income of Mercator Group reached EUR 2.170 billion in 2020, a growth of 1.6% compared to the previous year, whereas the retail income grew by 3.7%. In 2020, the normalized EBITDA of Mercator Group amounted to EUR 162. 8 million, whereas the group’s 2020 result, adapted to unprecedented events, was at EUR 4.7 million. The COVID-19 epidemic had a direct negative impact on the indicators of EUR 18.8 million. In 2020, Mercator successfully continued its efforts to reduce its debts, thereby lowering the ratio between the net financial debt and the normalized EBITDA to 5.2%.

– Despite the extremely challenging business conditions, Mercator Group managed to achieve a range of key strategic goals in 2020. Regardless of the restrictions of the epidemic, we considerably increased the income and further reduced the net financial debt, which is 5.3% lower than in 2019 – emphasized the chairman of the Management Board, Tomislav Cizmic.

– During the fight against the epidemic, Mercator Group has secured an unobstructed supply of the populace with the vital products, while remaining dedicated to increasing its revenues by focusing on securing competitive prices and a wide offer adapted to the desires and needs of its customers. We can therefore claim that the operations and the indicators of Mercator Group were successful in 2020 – Cizmic adds.

The business year 2020 was strongly affected by the coronavirus epidemic. Even before the epidemic was declared, the management of Mercator appointed the Crisis Work Group, which included over 100 key employees in all the markets that the group operates in. It was of utmost importance for Mercator Group to secure additional and adequate quantities of the vital foodstuffs even before the epidemic was declared and for it to analyze on a daily basis the need for the most demanded products. It was of crucial importance that Mercator had developed and expanded its strategic cooperation with local and regional suppliers even before the crisis. This once again proved to be a great competitive advantage for Mercator Group.

Mercator Group therefore entered 2021 in good business state, ready for new challenges and a new development cycle.
