Mazda3 was awarded first place in the all-important European compact class on the latest customer satisfaction study conducted by the US research institute J.D. Power. In the largest survey of Germany’s automobile market, Mazda3 scored 85.6 percent for overall customer satisfaction – ahead of the Mercedes A-Class with 84.8 percent and the Hyundai i30, which scored 84 percent. Customer satisfaction of German car owners was calculated from answers given in four categories of questions – Quality/Dependability, Vehicle Appeal, Service and Operating Costs. All categories carry the same weight, and together form the J.D. Power Customer Satisfaction Index (CSI).

In the rankings that reflect customer satisfaction for individual car brands, Mazda achieved an average of 83.1 percent. This ranked fourth on the list of 25 brands, and once again outperformed the industry average of 81.3 percent.

This year’s J.D. Power CSI was based on a poll of about 16,500 German car owners, who were asked to evaluate their automobiles, which were on average two years old. Results for all customer satisfaction categories, 25 nameplates and 102 car-lines will be published in detail in the July 2010 issue of Germany’s AUTO TEST on 25 June 2010.
