According to the ministry’s website, at the meeting of the minister of agriculture, forestry and water management of Serbia, Branislav Nedimovic, and the minister of rural development and food of Greece, Spilios Livanos, it was pointed out that Agrifreda had made a profit of EUR 40 million in the previous year and that it owned four factories and two distribution centers. The future investor in the formerly prominent company in Serbia’s south will have to invest considerable funds in reconstructing the cooling plants and other processing capacities, but can count on an important resource – a developed production of raw fruit, especially sour cherries.
It is reminded that the agreement between the two countries on cooperation in agriculture was signed in 2012 in Belgrade.
At the moment, when it comes to the trade of agricultural products with Greece, Serbia is reporting a deficit, because it imports more products than it exports. At the moment, Serbia imports citrus fruit, cigarettes and tobacco from Greece and exports ice cream, dog and cat food and various components for the food industry, as well as water, to Greece. The average volume of the trade in the past five years has been EUR 95.3 million, with a tendency of growth.
