Serbia to receive digital dividend after completion of digitalization process
Minister of Telecommunications and Information Society Jasna Matic stated yesterday (June 16, 2010) that an agreement must be reached concerning the use of the digital dividend on a regional level.
Speaking at the South Eastern European ministerial conference on digital
dividend, Matic stressed that the countries of South East Europe would make a
decision on how to use the digital dividend spectrum that was released in the
digitalization process.
The same applies to the decision
concerning which services it will be used for and its optimal
distribution between television broadcasting, mobile operators and
various other communication facilities, explained the Minister.
The
EU has formed a joint stance regarding the use and allocation of the
digital dividend, she noted.
Serbia will receive the digital
dividend as of 4 April 2012, after it has switched to digital
television, Matic said.
During that time, the process of
digitalization will be applied in the entire region so it is important
to discuss coordinated use of the spectrum, she remarked.
Representatives from many countries are taking part in the conference, with the World Association of Mobile Operators and the International Telecommunication Union sharing the most valuable expertise, Matic concluded.
Digital dividend is a frequency spectrum that is released upon the transfer from analogue to digital television broadcast.
