United Group and two of its companies have filed an arbitration request against Serbia to the International Center for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID) in Washington, N1 reports.

United Group, headquartered in the Netherlands, claims that Serbia has violated several obligations within the bilateral agreement on investments with the Netherlands, related to incentives and mutual protection of investments between the two countries.

– From 2014, United Group has been the target of numerous unfounded and discriminatory measures implemented by the Serbian authorities and state institutions. They are carried out as part of an intensive and orchestrated campaign, which aims to reduce the market share of SBB, the telecommunications operator of United Group in Serbia, and to promote the interests of Telekom Srbija – says the press release of United Group.

The press release says that United Group has filed an arbitration request in order to protect the company’s investments in Serbia, “since the Government of Serbia has not responded to an earlier request to resolve the dispute by agreement”.

It is added that the parties will appoint the arbiters and continue making written submissions.

In Serbia, in addition to SBB, its services EON and Total TV also operate within United Group, the largest TC and media operator in Southeast Europe, and media content is presented by TV channels and portals Sport Klub, Nova S and N1.
