METRO Cash&Carry invests EUR 15 million in Subotica - construction of distribution center starts in June
In association with the local authorities in Subotica, METRO Cash & Carry will invest EUR 15m in the construction of a distribution center in that town and the creation of 180 jobs. According to the Protocol that was signed yesterday (May 26, 2010) in the Subotica Town Hall by Subotica's Mayor Saša Vučinić and the Chairman of the Administrative Board of METRO Cash & Carry, Veronika Puncheva, joint efforts will be put into the improvement of cooperation between Subotica and METRO.
- Serious preparations that lasted for more than one year are about to give a concrete result and we expect the works to commence in June 2010. In addition to a financial effect, the investment of about EUR 15m in Subotica may be even more important to the people from that town than the employment of 180 workers - said Saša Vučinić.
Veronika Puncheva said that, by making that investment in Subotica, METRO Cash & Carry would open its sixth wholesale center in Serbia and offer its services to professional clients - traders and caterers.
The Protocol also envisages strengthening of the cooperation with suppliers from Subotica. By the way, METRO already cooperates with 19 manufacturers in Subotica, some of which are the manufacturers of private brands, and the company plans to increase that number in the future.
The benefits that the cooperation with METRO brings to the local community includes the construction of infrastructure, the possibility of buying supplies in a modern wholesale center, the employment of local manpower, and the cooperation with local suppliers who can offer their products world wide through the network of METRO distribution centers.
