Aleksandra and Veljko Aleksic, students of the “Nikola Tesla” High School of Electrical Engineering in Nis, have developed, on their own, a robot for the disinfection of rooms with UV lamps. The robot has won the contest organized by the Faculty of Science in Kragujevac.

The 16-year-old twins Aleksandra and Veljko’s robot is called Miroslav. It reacts to written and voice commands. They did everything on their own, and their father only helped them with cutting and welding the parts.

– It is versatile and useful in any industry, but, for the purposes of the contest, it was adapted to the disinfection of rooms and the medical tools it holds in its mechanical hands – says Veljko Aleksic, currently a sophomore student at said school.

– This is in fact an industrial robot and is applicable to any industry, whether it’s medicine or the mine industry – explains Aleksandra Aleksic, also a sophomore student at the “Nikola Tesla” High School of Electrical Engineering in Nis.

Their mentor is satisfied that they’ve applied their knowledge of informatics, but also shown the talent for solving mechanical problems.

– I believe that this is extremely valuable for their age and for anyone who makes something like this. They are very young and they’ve developed a very serious machine – their mentor, Predrag Subarevic, points out.

Veljko and Aleksandra also developed a control app. The name “Miroslav” is not random either.

– It is a kind of a pun. We called it Miroslav, so that peace (“mir” in Serbian) would spread throughout the world – Veljko explains.

– When we graduate, we plan to enroll at the Faculty of Electronic Engineering and later open our own company that would produce such robots – Aleksandra reveals.

The next move is to take Miroslav to the Faculty of Electronic Engineering in Nis, in order to present it at the World Contest too.
