Montenegro to Get New Airline Carrier Called To Montenegro – Government to Attempt to Keep MA’s Most Important Lines for Another Few Months

The Government of Montenegro will initiate the process of founding a new airline carrier, Capital Investments Minister Mladen Bojanic announced and added that they would try to have Montenegro Airlines (MA) keep its most important lines for another few months.

– The status of MA is undefined. We have been trying to keep the company alive for some time now, in the transitional period only, until the new one is formed – Bojanic said on TV Vijesti.

He added that the government’s position was that Montenegro, as a tourist country, needs to have its own national airline carrier.

Bojanic also said that the government would create an airline company that everyone in Montenegro can be proud of, but the kind of company that is unlike MA, which owes tens of millions of euros to everybody.

He said that the founding of the new airline carrier would take six to nine months.

– We are optimistic that we can do it within that deadline with the help of the European Commission and some large European airline carrier – Bojanic said and added that they planned to take over a part of the MA staff for the new company.

He believes that MA might continue operating for another month or two, if some payments are postponed in cooperation with the EC and the founding capital is used for the purchase of a part of the equipment.

– It’s all stretching the Law on Protection of Competition, but we are careful for everything to be in line with the regulations – Bojanic said.

He announced that the new company would be called To Montenegro.
