Government Considering Postponement of Tax Debt Payments Due to Pandemic?

The Government of Serbia is considering implementing the possibility of postponement of payment of tax debts and outstanding tax liabilities due to the pandemic, according to the working version of the Draft Law on the Amendments to the Law of Taxation Procedure and Tax Administration.

The document published on the website of the Ministry of Finance says that “in an exceptional situation, to the end of mitigating the economic consequences caused by the pandemic, force majeure, or another extraordinary event that occurs in a calendar year, the postponement of tax debts, that is, outstanding tax liabilities, is approved in the way and under the conditions determined by the government”.


Another new feature is the article pertaining to tax fraud related to value-added tax. In case there's tax evasion related to VAT, and the amount exceeds RSD 1 million, the penalty is one to five years and a monetary penalty.
