According to the official NIS website, Duboka Prerada is the second phase of the modernization of the Pancevo Oil Refinery, and its completion marks a new step.
– By introducing modern technologies in the oil sector of Serbia, we have shown that innovations are not just a corporate value on paper for us, but an essential practice on which we base our company's further development and create added value for the consumers – NIS said.
By realizing the project, NIS expresses care for the community it operates in, because the beginning of the operations of Duboka Prerada will bring numerous environmental benefits, primarily the cessation of the production of mazut with a high sulfur content and the reduction of emission of gases and powdered matters into the air.
– This will improve the ecological situation not just in Pancevo, but in all of Serbia. Furthermore, 63 local experts are employed in the new facility – NIS announced.
The cessation of the production of mazut with a high sulfur content will lead to a 98.9% reduction of the emission of SO2, 58.2% for powdered matters, 9.8% for NO2, and it will also improve the energy efficiency of the Refinery, the press release says.
Over seven million work hours were invested in the construction of the new complex. On average, 1,100 people worked on the project each day, and more than 80% of the hired workers were local contractors.
– Duboka Prerada will enable us to produce larger amounts of the best quality fuels – diesel, petrol and liquefied oil gas. Local production of oil coke, which we have been importing, is to start as well. The expansion of the range of products at the Refinery will further improve the energy stability of Serbia – NIS says.
NIS has announced that the completion of this project does not mean the end of the modernization of the oil processing complex in Pancevo and added that the leading shareholder in Nis, the Russian company Gazprom Neft, and the Republic of Serbia will continue investing in the Refinery, strengthening its competitiveness.
