Destiny of Zlatara Majdanpek uncertain after two unsuccessful privatizations
After two unsuccessful privatizations of Zlatara Majdanpek, the destiny of the biggest jewelry manufacturer in Serbia is still uncertain.
- We do not have any concrete information on the destiny of Zlatara Majdanpek at this moment - people from the Privatization Agency told Novosti.
- Changes in the company's restructuring program are underway. Once that procedure is finished, we will know when the new auction will be scheduled and what the starting price for Zlatara will be.
People in Slovenian company Laser Bled from Ljubljana, with which the contract on privatization of Zlatara is terminated, claim that they will not give up the procurement of the biggest jewelry manufacturer in Serbia. They have pressed charges against the Privatization Agency because they think that certain irregularities occurred during the procedure of change in the ownership structure, and they simultaneously pressed criminal charges against Siniša Jevrić, the CEO of Majdanpek-based Metal-processing industry (IPM), a member of which is Zlatara.
- At the moment of acquisition, Zlatara had the property of 3m EUR in gold - Mark Kavčić, the CEO of Laser Bled, told Novosti.
- Two months later, according to our data, there were about 1m EUR worth of goods in the warehouses. Therefore, the question is where that gold has gone.
Siniša Jevrić, the CEO of IPM, did not want to give any comment on Kavčić's accusations.
- The only thing that we find important at this moment is that Zlatara keeps doing business as usual - says Jevrić and adds that the salaries to all 344 workers are paid regularly.
- About 15 kg of gold are processed in our units every month. The major share of our goods is sold in the domestic market, but we also have several export arrangements.
