The Russian food store chain MERE is to enter the Serbian retail market, the Retail Serbia portal has learned.

MERE is a subsidiary of the Russian Torgservis Group, founded in 2009, which currently operates in over 800 locations throughout Russia under the Svetofor brand and is the third biggest store chain, behind X5 and Magnit.

– So far, we have opened 1,500 discount stores and we operate in 10 countries. The time has come for us to expand our business to the Serbian market as well, with at least 100 outlets and an average area of around 1,000 m2 – the Serbian office of the Russian company emphasized.

As said, they plan to work directly with producers, with strict quality control and a low margin. They point out that their prices will be 20% lower than average.

Upon entrance to the German market, MERE was forced to temporarily close its stores due to the great demand and the dearth of stock. In the region, the company has discount stores in Romania, and the offer includes some Serbian products as well.

In addition to Serbia, the company plans to expand its operations to the Greek market as well.

MERE discount stores take up 800 to 1,200 m2 and offer 1,500 to 2,000 articles, Retail Serbia says.
