- The Government of Denmark is willing to invest 5.3m EUR in development of fruit growing in the south of Serbia - the representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark, David Bak, said today.
He said to the press in Prokuplje that the Danes were interested in production of fruits, especially berry-like fruits, and that the south of Serbia had necessary resources and natural conditions for such production whose success would be guaranteed with good development strategy and worthy production programs.
Bak expressed expectation that the Danish program for fruit growing development would be backed by the Government of Serbia and supported with 5.6m EUR from the budget with the aim of backing both existing and completely new measures for development of that branch of agriculture.
The delegation of Denmark met in Prokuplje with the representatives of the agricultural sectors of the Toplica region and got familiar with the problems and development opportunities in the field of fruit production in the municipalities of Kuršumlija, Blace, Žitorađa and Prokuplje.
- We are here to locate the problems and find the ways to solve them together, as well as to make sure that the program for development of fruit growing in the south of Serbia, on which we have been working for few years now, is valid and applicable in practice - said Bak.
The Danes also spoke to the directors of all banks that have their offices in Toplica and considered the possibility of financing farmers, fruit manufacturers, through the loans that would be repaid under the most favorable terms.
While in Prokuplje, the delegation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark also visited the agricultural farm of Ljubiša Mitić from Prokuplje's village of Babin Potok, one of the biggest manufacturers of cherries in that area.
