New American Sanctions on Nord Stream 2

The US House of Representatives has approved an amendment to the National Defence Authorization Act (NDAA), stipulating the imposition of new sanctions on companies involved in the construction of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline.

The bill would extend the scope of sanctions levied against Nord Stream 2 to include all companies that provide certification, insurance, and port facilities for pipe-laying vessels related to the project.

The US State Department previously included Nord Stream 2 and Turkstream in the list of projects to be sanctioned by Washington, a move announced by US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, Sputnik reports.

The company Nord Stream 2 responded by saying that, if the gas pipeline is not completed, the price of gas for European residents will be several billions higher. The company added that the US State Department's threats were a reflection of a disrespect of the European industry's interests.
