Realization of Largest Project in Russia Begins – Europe-West China Highway to be Built

The realization of the largest project in Russia is to begin – the construction of the Moscow-Nizhny Novgorod-Kazan highway. This is a part of the international megaproject “Europe-West China”, which is being realized as a cooperation between several states: Russia, Kazakhstan, Belarus and China.

At a meeting, Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin said that the project “has a special importance for the entire Eurasian area”.

The “New Silk Road” is 8,500 kilometers long. Of that, more than 2,000 km is in the Russian territory. The highway will connect the 8 biggest regions of Russia.

– The project provides a regional impulse to accelerate development. The total growth of the GDP in those territories will exceed 500 billion rubles by 2050 – the prime minister stated.

Another equally important aspect is the creation of new jobs. According to Mishustin, there will be 30,000 new jobs at construction sites alone and another 130,000 in the adjacent branches.

– These are branches such as the automotive industry, oil industry, electronic industry, transport, logistics and others – the Russian prime minister clarified. A trip between Kazan and Moscow will take 6.5 hours at a speed of 130 kilometers per hour.

There are now two long roads from Europe to China. It takes about two weeks to travel the distance by railway, whereas a trip down the sea route, through the Suez Canal, takes nearly 1.5 months.
