This Monday, the Association of Serbian Travel Agencies of Serbia (UTAS) asked for additional help from the government and the competent ministries in the form of gross minimum wages by the end of the year, and the legal option of freezing the companies' activities for up to a year in order to prevent bankruptcies and massive layoffs.

The request was sent to the cabinet of Prime Minister Ana Brnabic, the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Economy, the Ministry of Trade, Tourism and Telecommunications, the Tourism Organization of Serbia and the tourist inspection, UTAS says in a press release.

As added, behind the request for additional help to the tourist sector, are five associations which gather more than 4,500 travel agencies in Serbia – UTAS, the National Association of Travel Agencies of Serbia (YUTA), the Business Association of Travel Agencies (ATAS), the Association of Independent Travel Agencies (ANTAS) and the Association of Receptive Agencies of Serbia (URA).

The associations will present the data on the business losses to the competent institutions and explain the listed measures that they believe will enable most tourism companies to survive and several thousand jobs to be saved, the press release says.

It is added that many European countries have already set aside additional help to the most affected sectors of the economy, among which are tourism and hospitality.
