Strazevica Tunnel on Bypass Route Around Belgrade Dug Through

The Strazevica Tunnel on the bypass route around Belgrade, the section from the bridge on the Sava near Ostruznica to Bubanj Potok, has been dug through today in the presence of Serbian Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure Zorana Mihajlovic. It will make up a part of the left lane of the Belgrade bypass highway.

The construction of the left side of the Strazevica Tunnel, of 733 meters, is worth around EUR 20 million, and the PE Roads of Serbia expects this infrastructural facility to be completed before the deadline, which, according to the agreement, is early 2022.

The event was also attended by Belgrade Mayor Zoran Radojicic and the acting director of the PE Roads of Serbia, Zoran Drobnjak.

The building of the right side of the Strazevica Tunnel, which is now used for two-way traffic, began in 1992. It opened to traffic in 2012.

This tunnel, on Sector 5 of the bypass route, now connects the route from Batajnica to the Ring Road leading to Bubanj Potok.

Once the left lane of the highway from the new bridge on the Sava near Ostruznica and both lanes of the highway from the Strazevica Tunnel to the Bubanj Potok interchange are finished, the highway between Batajnica and Bubanj Potok will be completed in the full length of 47 kilometers.

The Ministry of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure expects this to be done in less than two years and for the construction of an additional 31 kilometers of the bypass route from Bubanj Potok to Vinca and Pancevo to be agreed soon.

This means that the entire ring of the Belgrade bypass route will be completed, the construction of which began around 30 years ago with the aim of moving the cargo traffic out of the city.

The construction of the section of the Belgrade bypass route from the bridge on the Sava near Ostruznica to Bubanj Potok, in the length of 20.4 kilometers, costs EUR 207 million.

The main contractor is the Power Construction Corporation of China and the subcontractor is the Azerbaijani company Azvirt, along with domestic companies.
