Serbian textile companies at Fashion Fair in Istanbul

The Chamber of Commerce of Serbia organized the presentation of Serbian textile industry and enabled free appearance of five textile companies from Serbia at the Fashion Fair in Istanbul, which started on January 24 and lasts until January 26th.

The companies that will participate in the Fashion Fair in Turkey are: Mitex, which represents the Union of Textile Manufacturers from Arilje, Bros, which represents the interests of the Union of Textile Companies from Novi Pazar, factory Javor from Ivanjica, Zekstra from Belgrade and Željezničar from Subotica.

- Having in mind the fact that the application of diagonal accumulation of the origin of goods starts as soon as the Transient Agreement on Free Trade with European Union and the Free Trade Agreement with Turkey are put in effect, Turkey, as one of the main suppliers of semi-finished products and built-in accessories to Serbian manufacturers of ready-made clothing, gains in importance with the application of pan-European rules of the origin of goods. Ready-made clothing, made of Turkish materials in Serbia, will be exported to the EU and CEFTA countries free of duties - said Vesna Vasiljević, the Secretary of the Association for Textile, Clothing, Leather and Footwear Industry within the Chamber of Commerce of Serbia.

According to her words, meetings with the manufacturers of built-in accessories and basic materials, cotton and synthetic yarn and textile equipment will be organized during the fair. Novi Pazar's Union of textile companies Asteks initiated the meeting with the representatives of Turkish Environment Protection Agency with the aim of finding solution to the problem of wastewater treatment.

- The factories in Ruma and Novi Pazar have the biggest problem of that type - said Vesna Vasiljević and added that, in accordance with the harmonization of regulations of our country with the regulations of European Union, all manufacturers must find the solution to the wastewater treatment problem prior to April 2011.

Serbian textile and leather-processing industry exported 900m USD worth of goods in 2009. Export of Serbian textile is four times larger than at the time when the Agreement on Free Trade in Textile with EU was put in effect in 2005. That document represents the first bilateral agreement that Serbia signed with EU. Serbian textile companies have clients in the EU countries and the application of diagonal accumulation of the origin of goods with Turkey, EU and CEFTA countries will enable them access to a duty-free market with nearly 800m consumers.
