Twenty eight attaches start offensive - economic diplomats selected

The procedure of selection of 28 new economic diplomats has been finished. Already in spring, they will be off to the countries where they will defend our economic interests.

As Novosti was told by the people from the Ministry of Economy that organized the open competition, the first meeting with the selected candidates has already been held. During the next few weeks, they will go through thorough economic, diplomatic and security preparations before they depart for the countries of EU and the region and those strategically important countries - USA, Canada, Russia, Ukraine, China, Turkey, Japan...

The procedure of selection of diplomats took nearly six months and the applicants went through six elimination rounds of testing, which is, by the way, the first time that something like that was done in such way in the government administration of Serbia.

People from Dinkić's Ministry say that the politics was completely eliminated from the whole process. "Green light" for the candidates was given by an independent, expert commission, which comprised the representatives of the ministries of economy and foreign affairs, the Personnel Administration...

Although the new diplomats are selected, paid and given tasks by the Ministry of Economy, they are not going to be "subtenants" in our missions. They will submit reports to our ambassadors who will be their superiors.

Total of 9 women and 19 men earned the "title" of economic diplomat, and their average age is 36.

Salaries depend on title and destination

The salaries of future economic advisers will be determined in the way it is done for all other diplomats, and it will depend on title and destination of appointment. Their work will be audited at the end of the year, and if it proves to be successful and financial situation in the country allows, it is possible that the covering of additional destinations in EU will be taken in consideration.
